Responsive Goals & Strategies
A process for developing management goals and strategies responsive to environmental conditions and projected shifts
Project Brief
The Responsive Goals & Strategies (RGS) Framework was developed to help managers create goals and strategies that are responsive to environmental conditions and projected shifts across the landscape. RGS should ideally build on an Ecosystem Resilience Evaluation (ERE) or similar investigation, which assesses present and future environmental impacts on communities and natural resources.
Context
Managed areas often require management plans that document key features, establish management goals, and articulate specific strategies. Many management plans share a common challenge: they have traditionally relied on historical trends to inform future-focused strategies. This approach does not equip managers to respond quickly to changing environmental or human conditions, increasing risk to both nature and those that rely on it.
