Nature-Based Business Model

At Sea & Shore Solutions, our primary client is the environment itself. We entered this field, and continue to dedicate ourselves to this field, because of our strong environmental values. To ensure that our business aligns with these values, we adhere to a unique nature-based business model, which places environmental stewardship, corporate responsibility, and collective action at the forefront of our operations.

  • It takes a lot of resources to run a business: electronics, office supplies, promotional materials, and beyond. At Sea & Shore Solutions, we implement several key standards to help ensure that these resources have as little environmental impact as possible.

    • Prioritize the standard of “reduce, reuse, recycle”

    • Focus efforts on reducing overall use, since reduction of waste is always more effective than reusing or recycling

    • Use only responsibly sourced and sustainable products (e.g., recycled paper, natural fibers)

    • Highlight locally-made products, products that are intended for reuse (e.g., stainless steel water bottles), and products that encourage environmentally-friendly behaviors (e.g., reusable straws)

    • Responsibly dispose of electronics

  • At Sea & Shore Solutions, we talk the talk and walk the walk. Our team engages in nature-based acts of service so that we can reconnect with the environments we work for, experience environmental challenges first-hand, build relationships with stewardship champions, and fuel our nature-based values.

    • Steward Mile 233 (Boiler Bay to Fogarty Creek) through the CoastWatch program offered by Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition

    • Volunteer for beach cleanups and other on-the-ground environmental projects

    • Host regular volunteer opportunities for the S&S team

  • Our work takes us all over the world, which is both an honor and a responsibility. Transportation is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions; it is critical that our travel doesn’t harm the very planet that we work to protect. We take several actions to ensure that our travel is considerate to the environment and to the communities we are visiting.

    • Invest in carbon offsets for greenhouse gas emissions from all travel

    • Choose the most climate-friendly mode of transportation and environmentally-friendly airline

    • Engage in on-the-ground service through volunteering for environmental or community focused efforts

    • Donate to place-based organizations doing community-oriented projects to support a healthy environment

  • The environment is rapidly changing, and science, technology, and management approaches are evolving to match these changes. We know that it is critical to be a constant learner so that we can use the most innovative, cutting-edge, and scientifically robust approaches and solutions. Outdated methods just won’t cut it. We ensure that our team has the appropriate knowledge to lead the charge for our planet and communities.

    • Foster a team culture of learning by sharing relevant, high-quality articles, webinars, books, and other learning resources

    • Regularly attend webinars and workshops to build knowledge

    • Financially support continued education through credit programs and certificates

    • Attend and participate in conferences, summits, and other knowledge-sharing events
