Ecosystem Resilience Evaluation Toolkit
a forward-looking, community-driven approach for environmental management
Project Brief
The Ecosystem Resilience Evaluation (ERE) Framework was developed to help managers plan for future conditions by investigating present and future environmental impacts on communities and natural resources. Community input is combined with best-available science to assess vulnerability and prioritize action. Outcomes are directly useable in management plans, contributing description of key assets and informing strategy development.
Context
Managed areas often require management plans that document key features, establish management goals, and articulate specific strategies. Many management plans share a common challenge: they have traditionally relied on historical trends to inform future-focused strategies. This approach does not equip managers to respond quickly to changing environmental or human conditions, increasing risk to both nature and those that rely on it.
Testing the ERE in Florida’s Big Bend
This work was completed in partnership with the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and the Big Bend Seagrasses Aquatic Preserve.
